In Mevo Beitar, where the Jerusalem Hills rise in rocky terraces thick with wild herbs, olive trees, and fragrant Mediterranean plants, Rachely Keshet has spent years studying what grows around her. A certified naturopath and clinical herbalist, she founded Esev Merape—Hebrew for “Healing Herb”—in 2014, turning a lifelong fascination with Israel’s plants into handcrafted botanical skincare.
For Rachely, the hills are also a classroom. She leads women outdoors to identify edible and medicinal plants, teaching them how to recognize the leaves, flowers, roots, and herbs growing along familiar paths. That same knowledge finds its way into her work at Esev Merape, where she develops skincare inspired by the botanical world of the Land of Israel.
Her signature Radiant Face Cream is the result of years of research and refinement, combining botanical oils with Vitamin E in a rich, lightweight moisturizer. Smooth a small amount over clean skin in the morning or evening, allowing the cream to hydrate and soften your face. During Israel’s lingering late summer heat—or any warm day at home—Rachely recommends keeping the jar in the refrigerator for a cool, refreshing touch.
There is a lovely connection between Rachely and this month’s theme. Her home in Mevo Beitar lies in the hills west of Bethlehem, while her name recalls Rachel, our Matriarch who waited beside the road nearby. Rachely spends her days walking these hills, learning their plants and teaching other women to know them too—a modern Israeli woman building her life and livelihood among the herbs and ancient pathways of Judea.
