The Jewish State: From Opposition to Opportunity is Rabbi Doron Perez’s powerful and timely blueprint for strengthening unity within Israel and redefining the Jewish mission in the 21st century. With clarity, depth, and unwavering optimism, Rabbi Perez examines some of the most pressing questions facing Israel and the Jewish people today: Why has antisemitism morphed into a new, globalized form of anti-Zionism? What should the goals of a modern Jewish state be? And how can a nation as diverse and ideologically divided as Israel find genuine internal cohesion?
Drawing from classical Jewish sources, modern scholarship, and the wisdom of great thinkers from Rav Kook to Rabbi Sacks, Rabbi Perez articulates a model in which Israel’s political, spiritual, and cultural challenges can be transformed into opportunities for national renewal. He weaves together Jewish history, contemporary issues, and timeless Torah teachings to demonstrate how unity is possible and essential for Israel’s future, and for the moral and spiritual health of the world.
Written with the sensitivity of an educator, the clarity of a communal leader, and the insight of a seasoned thinker, this book serves as a compelling guide for anyone seeking to understand Israel’s role in global Jewish life and how the Jewish State can fulfill its destiny as a light unto the nations. The endorsements from leading rabbanim, scholars, educators, and public intellectuals reflect the book’s profound impact and relevance. A must have volume for Jewish educators, Zionist thinkers, community leaders, and anyone who cares deeply about Israel’s present and future.

About the Author:
Rabbi Doron Perez is a globally respected educator, thinker, and leader whose life story is deeply intertwined with the modern State of Israel and the worldwide Jewish community. Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, he made Aliyah at age 18 and immersed himself in Israel’s leading yeshivot for a full decade of intensive Torah study. During this time, he completed the Hesder program – combining advanced Torah learning with military service in the Israel Defense Forces – an experience that shaped his philosophy of integrating spiritual commitment with national responsibility. Rabbi Perez later earned a Bachelor of Education and a Master’s degree in Jewish History from the University of Haifa, grounding his religious leadership in rigorous academic scholarship.
For fifteen years, Rabbi Perez became one of the most influential Jewish educators in the South African Jewish community. He served as the Executive Director of the Mizrachi movement of South Africa, Senior Rabbi of its flagship congregation, and Head of Yeshiva College – Southern Africa’s largest Torah school system. In these positions, he revitalized Jewish identity and Zionist engagement among thousands of students and families, working to connect diaspora communities with the spiritual and national heartbeat of Israel.
In 2014, Rabbi Perez returned to Israel with his family to become the Executive Chairman of the world Mizrachi movement. Under his leadership, Mizrachi has expanded its global reach, championing a unified Religious-Zionist voice across more than 30 countries. His work centers on strengthening the bond between Jews worldwide and the State of Israel – culturally, spiritually, and ideologically. Rabbi Perez is widely recognized for weaving together classical Jewish sources, modern scholarship, and contemporary geopolitical realities to articulate a compelling vision for Israel’s future.
As an author and sought-after international speaker, Rabbi Perez has become a leading voice on Jewish unity, national resilience, Israel-Diaspora relations, and the role of the Jewish state in the 21st century. His writing reflects decades of leadership, scholarship, and personal experience – spanning yeshiva study, military service, community building, and global Jewish activism. His work, including The Jewish State: From Opposition to Opportunity, offers a fresh, nuanced, and deeply rooted approach to understanding Israel’s challenges and opportunities today. Rabbi Perez lives in Yad Binyamin with his wife, Shelley, and their four children, embodying the ideals of Torah, community, and Zionist life that animate his thought and writing.
